Some helpful hints:
-
Measure your equine on a flat level surface using a cloth measuring tape. Please measure in inches.
-
The Poll is measured from the corner of the mouth, up over the poll, behind the ears, to the other corner of the mouth.
-
Girth is measured right behind the front legs, all the way around the girth.
-
The noseband is measured about 1” or (1/2” for mini) below the cheek bone.
-
The browband is measured from behind one ear aroud the brow to behind the other ear.
STANDARD HARNESS SIZES:
We don't believe there is actually a 'standard' measurement for any equine but the chart below is a basic guidline for harness sizing. Please know that Comfy Fit will supply you with the harness parts that YOU need and the harness made to fit your equine in accordance with the measurements you provide. If you need a mini breast collar and a draft breeching, that is what we will supply (but maybe you should measure twice - just in case)!

How to Measure for a Collar:
Use a collar measuring tool or two carpenter’s squares (L shaped rulers) or L shaped cardboard cutouts. Overlap the long sides of the two rulers or cutouts forming what looks like a letter C or half of a collar. Place that on the animal as if it were one side of the collar. Place it just where you want the collar to sit on the animal. Remove it carefully so the two parts do not slip and measure from the top to the bottom on the inside. That will be your collar size.
To determine the shape or sweeney for your new collar, look at the front of your horse’s neck:
FULL FACE: Average, straight necks, i.e. thoroughbred, standardbred
HALF SWEENEY: Necks that are wider at the bottom than the top, i.e. quarter horse, fjord, halflinger, average drafts
FULL SWEENEY: Necks that are thick all the way up
